If you're posting here, it's probably because you're a railfan. In that case, I have some good news for you. Your house is adjacent to the CSX (former Conrail) River Line, a major freight route between North Jersey and Albany. Dozens of freight trains operate on this line at all hours of the day and night, so I hope you enjoy falling asleep to the sound of train horns!

If your real estate agent has told you something different, he/she isn't telling the truth.

Does anyone know whether or not there are freight trains running on the NY side where Amtrak runs and, if so, what are their hours and how often do they run. Please advise.

That's the CSX River Line. There's substantial traffic on that route, as it CSX's key route from Philly up through Oak Island (Newark) to Selkirk (Albany). You'll have some trains through that at all hours. There's a Yahoo discussion group specific to that Newark-Albany portion: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CSXRiverline/

I hope this helps.

My wife and I are seriously considering purchasing a home in northern new jersey. The only issue is that there is freight line running very close to the rear of the house and I am trying to find out the frequency of use on this line. The line is running parallel to Palisade Ave in Teaneck. How can we find out this information without relying on the word of the realtor. Does anyone have any information on what line this is, how often does it run, and what hours of the day or night. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
